Joining as a vehicle owner is free and takes about ten minutes. There are two parts: creating your account, then completing your profile.
Once both are done you can add a vehicle, and once a vehicle is approved you can start bidding on trips.
Who can register
Let’s Ride is open to Sri Lankan vehicle owners. You will need:
- A valid Sri Lankan National Identity Card
- To be 18 or over
- A phone number not already used on Let’s Ride
- A clear photo of yourself
- A vehicle you own, which you will add afterwards
There is no fee at any stage. Listing vehicles and placing bids are free, and you keep the full amount you agree with the traveller.
Part 1: Create your account
Go to the Vehicle Owner sign up page and enter your name, email address, phone number, country and a password.
Use an email you check. Trip alerts and decisions on your vehicles are sent there, and a missed email is a missed booking.
Part 2: Complete your profile
This is the longer part, and every field is required.
Your photo. A clear picture of your face, up to 5 MB. Travellers see who they would be travelling with, and a real photo of a real person is worth more here than a logo.
Phone number. Must not already be registered on Let’s Ride. If you get an error saying the number is in use, you may already have an account.
District, city and address. Where you are based. This helps us match you to trips starting near you.
Date of birth. You must be 18 or over to register as a vehicle owner.
NIC number. Your Sri Lankan National Identity Card, in either format:
- 12 digits, the newer cards
- 9 digits followed by V or X, the older cards
We check the number is genuinely formatted as a Sri Lankan NIC, so a number typed in a hurry will be refused. Copy it from the card.
Gender.
Your bio. Up to 1,000 characters, and this one is worth spending time on.
Why the bio matters more than owners expect
Travellers cannot message you before they accept your bid. Messaging opens only after they have chosen you.
So when someone is comparing your offer against three others, your bio is one of the only things telling them who you are. It is doing the job a conversation would do anywhere else.
Things worth putting in it:
- How long you have been driving, and where you know well
- Languages you speak
- What travellers can expect from a trip with you
Things to leave out: your phone number and email. Keep contact details for after the booking is confirmed.
What happens after you finish
Nothing waits for approval at this stage. Your account is ready as soon as you submit the profile.
Vehicles are the part we review, not owner accounts. So the next step is to add your vehicle, and that one does go to our team for checking.
Read how to add a vehicle and get approved before you photograph it. Most rejections come down to the photos, and the article explains exactly what we look for.
You can list more than one vehicle
There is no limit. Each vehicle is reviewed separately, so a van approved today does not carry a car you add next month through review with it.
More vehicles also means fewer blocked bids. If one vehicle is already confirmed on a trip, you can still bid on an overlapping trip with another, which you cannot do with a single vehicle.
How trips reach you once you are set up
You do not have to go looking for work every morning. When a traveller’s trip is approved, we notify vehicle owners about it, so new trips arrive rather than needing to be found.
You then place a bid on the ones you want. Each owner gets one bid per trip, and the traveller compares yours against the others before choosing. See how to place a bid on a trip for what to enter and what makes an offer win.
Common problems
“This phone number is already in use.” The number is on another Let’s Ride account. If it is an old account of yours, sign in to that one instead of making a second.
“The NIC number is invalid.” Check for a typo. Older cards end in V or X and that letter is part of the number.
You are under 18. You cannot register as a vehicle owner yet. If the vehicle is a family one, it can be registered by the owner who is over 18.
Still stuck?
If something will not save and the message does not explain why, contact support and a person will help.
