You cannot bid on trips until you have at least one approved vehicle. Adding one takes three steps and a few minutes.
Most vehicles that get rejected are rejected for the same four reasons, and all four are avoidable. They are listed further down. Read that part before you take your photos, not after.
Before you start
Have these ready:
- Your vehicle, somewhere with good light. You need to photograph it.
- Your registration details. Number plate, brand, model, and both the manufacture year and the registration year.
Step 1: Photos
You need at least 2 photos, and you can add up to 5.
The rules:
- Format: JPEG, PNG or WebP
- Keep each photo under 3 MB. Phone cameras often produce larger files than this, so check the size before uploading.
Take the photos yourself, of your own vehicle, today. This matters more than photo quality, and it is where most rejections come from.
At least one photo must show the number plate clearly enough to read. We check that the plate in your photos matches the number you enter in Step 2. If we cannot read it, we cannot confirm the vehicle is yours.
Good photos to include:
- The front, with the number plate readable
- The side, showing the whole vehicle
- The inside, where passengers sit
Travellers see these photos next to your price when they compare bids. Clear, honest photos of a clean vehicle win bookings against a cheaper offer with poor ones.
Step 2: Details
Vehicle type. Choose the category your vehicle actually belongs to. Getting this wrong is a rejection reason, and it also puts you in front of the wrong trips.
Brand and model. As they appear on your registration.
Manufacture year and registration year. Both from 2000 onwards. The registration year cannot be earlier than the manufacture year, because a vehicle cannot be registered before it was built.
Vehicle number. Use the format on your plate, with a dash: ABC-1234 or AB-1234. Two or three letters, a dash, then four numbers.
Each number plate can only be registered once on Letβs Ride. If you see an error saying the number is already taken, the vehicle is already on the platform, possibly under another account.
Step 3: Review
Check everything and submit. Your vehicle status becomes pending.
What happens next
Our team reviews every vehicle by hand. Nothing is automatic, and nobody is approved just for waiting.
You will get a notification and an email with the decision.
If approved, the vehicle becomes available for bidding straight away, and you can start placing bids on trips.
If rejected, the message tells you why. Fix that one thing and resubmit the same vehicle. You do not need to start again or create a second listing.
The four reasons vehicles get rejected
These are the ones our team sees most often.
1. Photos that are not of your vehicle
Manufacturer images, photos taken from a sales website, or pictures of a different vehicle of the same model. We reject these every time.
Travellers book based on those photos. If they arrive to something that does not match, the complaint comes to us and the trust goes with it.
2. The number plate cannot be read
Too far away, blurred, at an angle, in shadow, or cropped out. If we cannot match the plate in the photo to the number you registered, we cannot approve the vehicle.
Stand close. Use daylight. Check the photo before you upload it.
3. Photos not related to the vehicle
Screenshots, documents, photos of something else entirely. Only photos of the vehicle itself belong here.
4. The wrong vehicle type or category
Registering a van as a car, or picking a category that does not match what you have. This one also costs you money even before rejection, because it puts your vehicle in front of travellers who need something different.
Getting approved the first time
Everything above comes down to one thing. Take clear, honest photographs of your own vehicle in daylight, make sure the plate is readable in at least one, and describe the vehicle as it actually is.
Vehicles that do that are approved without any back and forth.
Adding more vehicles
There is no limit on how many you list. Each one is reviewed on its own, so approval for one does not carry another through, and a rejection on one does not affect the rest.
It is worth having more than one if you can. When a vehicle is confirmed on a trip, it cannot bid on another trip over the same dates, so a second vehicle is the difference between turning work down and taking it.
Once your vehicle is approved
It can bid immediately. Trips are sent to owners as they are approved, so work arrives rather than needing to be hunted for.
Read how to place a bid on a trip next. It covers the extra kilometre rate, which protects you when a journey runs longer than planned, and the five reasons a bid gets refused.
Still stuck?
If your vehicle was rejected and the reason is not clear, or you think it was rejected in error, contact support and a person will look at it.
