How to create a traveller account

Signing up is free and takes two minutes. Here is what we ask for, why each thing is needed, and what to do first once you are in.

Creating a traveller account is free and takes about two minutes. You do not need to know your dates, your route, or which vehicle you want. All of that comes later.

There are no fees at any point. Posting trips and comparing bids cost nothing, and Let’s Ride never takes a booking fee or a service charge.

What you need

  • An email address you check
  • A phone number
  • A photo of yourself

That is all. No documents, no card details, no deposit.

Step 1: Create your account

Go to the sign up page and enter your full name, email address, phone number, country and a password.

You can also sign up with Google or Apple if you would rather not create another password.

Use an email you actually check. When your trip is approved, and when bids start arriving, that is where we tell you.

Step 2: Add your phone number and photo

Two things are asked for before you post your first trip. Both exist for the same reason: the moment you meet your driver.

Your phone number. So your driver can reach you about your trip.

Plans move. Flights land late, pickup points change, and traffic in Colombo does what it likes. Your driver having a working number is what stops a small problem becoming a missed pickup. It also has to be a number not already used on another Let’s Ride account.

Your photo. So your driver knows who they are picking up.

An arrivals hall at Bandaranaike at six in the morning is a difficult place to find a stranger. A clear photo of your face turns that into a two-second job. It does not need to be flattering, just recognisable. Up to 5 MB, in JPEG, PNG or WebP.

Neither is used for anything else. We do not sell your details and we do not pass them to anyone who has not won your booking.

If you signed up with Google or Apple

Signing in with Google or Apple skips the password, and it also skips the phone number, because neither service passes one to us.

That is why you are asked for a phone number afterwards even though you never typed one. It is not a second sign up and nothing has gone wrong. It is the one detail we could not get from Google or Apple and that your driver genuinely needs.

Everything else works identically. There is no difference in what you can do, and no separate kind of account.

What you can do straight away

Nothing waits for approval. Your account works the moment you finish.

The next step is to post your first trip, which is where you describe the journey you want and let vehicle owners bid for it. That takes about five minutes and commits you to nothing.

Read how to post a trip and get bids before you start. The itinerary step is the one worth spending time on, because the more precisely you describe the journey, the more accurate the prices you get back.

How the rest of it works

Briefly, so you know what you are joining:

  1. You describe a trip. Where you are going, when, how many people, and what sort of vehicle.
  2. We check it, then show it to verified vehicle owners across Sri Lanka.
  3. They bid for it. Each owner can make one offer, so every price you see is a different owner competing for your booking.
  4. You choose. Or you choose nobody, which is also fine.
  5. You pay the owner directly, the amount you agreed. We are not in the middle of it.

That last point is worth repeating because it surprises people. Let’s Ride does not handle money at any stage. Nobody from Let’s Ride will ever ask you to pay us, and nobody will ask for payment on an owner’s behalf. If someone does, that is not us and we would like to know about it.

Hotels and travel agents

The same account works if you are booking on someone else’s behalf. Hotels and travel agents use Let’s Ride to arrange transport for guests, and the process is identical: post the trip, compare the bids, pick one.

It is free for them too. There is no commission and no agency rate, because there is nothing for us to take a cut of.

Keeping your account safe

Use a password you do not use anywhere else, or sign in with Google or Apple so there is no extra password to lose.

Arrange payment with your driver directly, once messaging opens after you accept their bid. Be wary of anyone asking for money before that point.

Changing your details later

Everything here can be edited from your profile afterwards. If you change your number, update it before your trip rather than after, because that is the number your driver will be calling.

Still stuck?

If a step will not save and the message does not explain why, contact support and a person will help.
